Portal Usage Statistics: First Day of School

It was an amazingly busy day in the portal. We logged our busiest day (in terms of user sessions) ever.

We sustained 4 straight hours of 1,500+ concurrent user sessions. Our servers logged 32,301 session creation events and of those sessions there were 12,892 unique users.

We’re cooking up some reports for what 2006 looked like.

Update: We define “concurrent user” as an active user session object. This may be a bit lax compared to other ways of measuring, but as long as we stay consistent we have good general usage numbers.

How do you define concurrent user? We define this to be “a user that has requested a page within the last 5 minutes.”
