In the last couple of months there has been a growing effort to standardize the icon for RSS/ATOM feeds in browsers. Back in December, the Internet Explorer developers pledged to adapt the icon first implemented in Firefox. You can download a pre-packaged collection of this icon in various sizes, and file formats from FeedIcons.com. I would encourage all web developers on campus to use this icon if you plan on representing your syndication feeds graphically in your work.

Pat and I created a Podcast using the new Garageband from Apple’s iLife ‘06 software suite. One of the pitfalls from the experiment was that it only exported the music file from Garageband as an AAC file which meant that it needed to be converted to MP3 via iTunes. It wasn’t too much trouble and only added another few minutes to the process. To publish the podcast we uploaded the MP3 file to a MovableType blog and republished the RSS feed through Feedburner which takes all the work out of having to format the RSS feed for iTunes or other RSS readers with media capabilities. You can check out our Podcast Test Blog or try subscribing to our Podcast Feed directly.
