This is an exciting new way to search the catalog as well as several online databases that we have access to like JSTOR and Academic Search. In the past students would have to search each journal database and our catalog separately. Now, everything is handled through a single search box. Hopefully users will find this means of search much more convenient and a faster way of researching.

I’m guessing that students are turning in assignments to WebCT Vista in preparation for finals and looking to study or finish group projects in the library.

Last week, with Thanksgiving providing an opportunity for many workers to take some extended vacation, it comes as no surprise that few searches were performed from on campus. How few? Of the 8,162 unique searches performed last week, only 1,017 of which came from on-campus. That is approximately 12.5% of searches compared with the previous week where 27.4% of searches originated from on-campus.

So how does the new metric compare? Well, using the older metric the Word of the Week would have been Academic Calendar. Not much of a surprise there.
